Portrait of Private Basil Victor Jones seated outdoors in uniform. Private Jones was born in Rye, Susses, England and was a member of the Divisonal Supply Column. The 27 yeard old soldier had been training in Toronto when he died of complications associated with pnemonia (empyema) February 2, 1915. He and Pte. Samuel Ashworthy (4th Company, 19th Battalion) who also died in hospital during training, were given a large military funeral with full honors in Prospect Cemetary, Toronto.
