[In a post card addressed to Miss Clara Holmes, Lieutenant Dudley Alan Herbert Acheson described some conditions on the front. Born in Manitoba on April 3, 1888, Acheson was a barrister and was engaged to Miss Holmes before enlisting in March 1916 at the age of 27. He set sail for England with the 65th Battalion in June 1916. A month later, Acheson was drafted to the 54th Battalion and on August 14, 1916, Acheson arrived in Le Havre, France. Acheson was killed in action on November 5, 1916 by a German sniper's bullet while inspecting some trenchwork.]
