Description
Field Marshal Sir Douglas Haig commanded the British Expeditionary Force (B.E.F.) from 1915 to 1919. The Battle of Amiens (the August 8,1918 opening of the Hundred Days Offensive) was spearheaded by Canadian and Australian troops, nearly breaking through the German lines that day, and seriously shaking the resolve of the German soldiers. Alfred Soden English identifies the soldiers in the photograph as the 14th Battalion, Royal Montreal Regiment, C.E.F.
