Description
In March of 1915, Captain Charles Fryatt and his merchant vessel, the S.S. Brussels were attacked by a German U-boat submarine. Fryatt attempted to ram the German craft with his ship, and the submarine subsequently withdrew. The British Admiralty awarded Fryatt with a gold watch for his couragous conduct.  He and his crew were captured by the Germans in 1916. They were arrested and taken to Ruhleben prison camp outside Berlin. Later transported to Belgium to stand trial for piracy, Fryatt was executed by the Germans on July 27, 1916.
