Description
The S.S. Brussels was a passenger ferry built in 1902 for the British Great Eastern Railway. In 1915, she tried to ram a German U-33 submarine and when the ship was captured in 1916, the captain, Charles Fryatt was executed. The Brussels was renamed Brugge and used as a depôt ship in the German-held port of Zeebrugge, eventually scuttled when they evacuated in 1918. After the war the Belgian government raised the ship and presented it to the British Admirality.
