Description
Part of the larger Battle of the Lys (April 7 -29, 1918), action centred around the village of Hazebrouck took place between April 12 and 15, 1918. The German Sixth Army attempted to capture Ypres and push the British to the English Channel. Ultimately unsuccessful, the Germans advanced through the region in an attampt to break through and take the British-held rail centre of Hazebrouck along the way.
