Description
Percy Eugene Peterson, 25, volunteered for the Canadian Expeditionary Force on February 14, 1916, leaving behind a wife and two small children in Frederiction, NB. A skilled tradesmen, Percy’s experience as a larrigan (boot) maker was recognized in his appointment to rank of Corporal, Saddler, Canadian Army Service Corps. He was taken on strength to 4th Division Train and embarked to France in August 1916. Percy served in various locations on the Western Front with the 4DT until the end of the war.  His work would have included oversight of care and repair of harnesses and traces within the division for horse transport units delivering munitions and supplies from the rail heads forward to the front lines.
