Description
The area surrounding Hill 70 included the suburb Cite St.Laurent, near the coal mine and industrial centre of Lens, France. Caught between German and Allied troops along the Western Front, Cite St Laurent was rubble by the time the 4th and 5th Canadian infantry brigades attacked the area as they attempted to capture the tactical position of the hill and draw German troops from Ypres, from August 15-25, 1917.
