Description
View towards the Mole, or harbour wall with warehouses and quay connected to Zeebrugge by a viaduct. The Mole shelters the canal mouth that connects Bruge to the North Sea, and was an important German Uboat launching point after the invasion of Belgium in August, 1914. The British Navy carried out a raid on Zeebrugge in 1918 with the intension of blocking the canal mouth with scuttled ships. While the raid was ultimately unsuccessful, it was depicted by the British Government, and boosted the moral of their troops and citizens.
