Description
View from a ship with naval guns in foreground covering the evacuation of Gallipoli, December, 1915.  Field Marshal Lord Kitchener, Commander in Chief of the British Army visited Gallipoli in November, 1915 and concluded that the ANZAC troops could not successfully break the Turkish lines without significant reinforcements and artillery. Winter storms would make suppying the troops even more difficult, and the decision was made to evacute. In three stages, so as not to alert the Turkish troops, the ANZACs left Gallipoli quietly with hardly any casualties.
