Photo post card with a group of mounted officers and others on foot in background. Alfred Soden English indicates himself with an arrow, standing on a raised platform with other officers. One of the mounted figures is Sam Hughes, Canada's Minister of Militia and Defense from 1911 to 1916. Hughes was a controversial figure, insrumental in organizing Canada's intial war effort. However, champioing the purchase of the Ross Rifle, among other unsuccessful command and organizational desisions, led to his dismissal by prime minister Borden in November of 1916.Possibly at Valcartier Camp.
