[Group photograph of 17 officers at Senior Officer's School in Aldershot, 1917. Established in October 1916, the School was born out of a demand for competent Commanding Officers. The type and scale of warfare, the inability to replace vacancies, and the expanding British Army, including expeditionary forces from self-governing dominions, created an unprecedented demand for training. The Senior Officer's School continued to exist following the end of WWI, a testament to its value and success.]
