Description
14th Battalion Royal Montreal Regiment on a road marching to rest camp after seeing action at Hill 70 (August 14-18, 1917). The battle cemented the Canadians' reputation - the troops earned five Victoria Crosses during the four days of battle, and they were able to take and hold the defensive postition outside of Lens, despite numerous German couter-attacks.
